Lee Unkrich, the director of the Coco and Toy Story 3, first developed an idea for the movie Coco in 2010. And the entire production of this movie took six years. Initially, the character Miguel was designed to be an American child, who finds out his Mexican heritage while dealing with the death of his mother.

02 There were 7 million lights used.

Many of the audience are amazed by the opening shot of the Land of the Dead. In fact, 7 million lights were created for the shot and it took years for animators to contrive and complete the scene.

03 500 individual pieces of clothing were made for crowd characters.

Pixar studio are well known for its meticulous work. To get the right outfits for crowd characters, from the residents of Santa Cecilia to the skeleton-attendees of Ernesto de la Cruz's party in the Land of the Dead, animators created the 500 individual pieces in a variety of ways for the characters.

04 The movie has many references to historical Mexican characters.

You may notice that the movie contains a lot of famous Mexican celebrities, like Frida Kahlo. What is more, Miguel's dog Xolo was modeled after Frida Kahlo's dogs.

05 Coco is Mexico's highest-grossing movie ever.

Many people may know that the concept for Coco is inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday and find a lot of Mexican elements in the movie. But you may not know that Coco beat out Marvel's "The Avengers" become the highest grossing movie in Mexico.

06 Coco is more popular in China than in the US.

Coco earned $150 million in the US during its first month released. In contrast, the movie was a box-office success in China, grossing $154 million in just four weeks in the Chinese box office.
