Miss Saigon is a musical co-created by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, first debuted on September 20, 1989 in Theatre Royal of London.

The musical is inspired by a photo in a magazine. In the picture, at the gate of an airport in Sai Kung, a Vietnamese mother is sending her children to the United States, where her child's American father could provide the child with a better living environment.
Claude-Michel Schönberg thought what the mother does was "the greatest sacrifice", which became the central theme of Miss Saigon musical later.

In the Vietnam War, the heroine Kim - a Vietnamese dance hostess and the hero Chris - an American soldier fall in love with each other. However, due to troop withdrawal, Chris had to return to America.
Later, Kim gave birth to Chris's children. She hoped that one day Chris would come back and pick her up to the United States. But Chris, who had married in the United States, was impossible to be with Kim again. So Kim eventually chose to commit suicide.
