On November 9, 2018, Facebook quietly launched a video sharing app called Lasso, regarded as the competitor as Tik Tok, which can be the most popular video making and sharing app around the world. Since its release in 2016, Tik Tok has gathered more than 500 million monthly active users from the global. Especially, after merging with the Musical.ly app on the August 1 of 2018, Tik Tok has become increasingly more and more popular. Lasso VS Tik Tok, Which is better? Though Lasso is a newcomer, many people are also curious about it.

Facebook told The Verge: "Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos." You might have lots of expectation about this new app because it seems so similar to Tik Tok. To have a clear comparison between Lasso and Tik Tok, this post will be carried out in several aspects.

Round 1. Camera Tools and Effects

Both of these two video makers are focusing on 15-seconds video sharing, so "how to easily create an awesome video" might be key to the success of them.

First of all, one of the most important reasons for Tik Tok's huge popularity is its powerful camera tools and special effects, including facial recognition - Pride, Face Filters, 3D Mask, AR. You can choose a cute expression featuring your face with instant face recognition which will make your video more interesting. Moreover, Tik Tok also offers massive filters for you to choose a filter to beautify your video with ease.

Lasso also has many camera tools offered to help you shoot a perfect video clip, for example, flash light, mirror mode, speed mode. However, all these basic camera tools are not surprising at all because many video making app own these tools as well.

There is no doubt that this round on camera tools and effects, Tik Tok overwhelmingly beats Lasso.

As for Lasso, you can find all genres background music on it, from trending pop hits to vintage classics. Whatever song you need, simply search it on the search bar, and then, you can easily get it.

To tell the truth, it's hard to choose which one is better in this round. Both of Lasso and Tik Tok have a rich music library indeed.

Besides, if you want to explore more hashtag, you can tap on the rocket icon at the upper right corner to make it.
As for Tik Tok, it's quite similar. It also has offered many hashtags for all users to explore. On the Browser section, you can find the latest and most popular hashtag challenge as well.
Both of these two apps are doing well in Hashtag challenge aspect. However, Lasso has been released just for a few days, so there are not so many hashtag challenges provided. Currently, I will say Tik Tok is the winner.

For Tik Tok app, a dark color can be the theme color of it. You can see a navigation bar in black, background in dark blue. Moreover, Tik Tok app also provides the animated thumbnail option for users so as to make the Tik Tok video preview more interesting and attractive.
For Lasso app, it's totally opposite. You can find a large area in white, words in the dark color to make a contrast. These two apps are quite alike. Everyone has his or her own preference.

Lasso has a seamless connection with Instagram and Facebook. After shooting an interesting video, you can easily share it on the Facebook story. However, Lasso is only usable in the United States currently.

Basically, I have compared Tik Tok with Lasso in 5 rounds. It's not hard to find the shimmer of these two apps. Each app is awesome and has its own unique features. In my opinion, Tik Tok has met most users' need because it has provided so many services for users to create their amazing videos. However, if you just need the basic functions to shoot a video clip and share with your friends, Lasso is enough.
